In 1854 Elias Eppstein came to Syracuse to be the teacher at Temple Concord. He is the subject of my research. He married Fanny that same year in what most have been a whirlwind romance. Though I grew up in NY, I had no idea that Syracuse has such a large Jewish community, and I'm surprised to find Eastern European Jews arriving as early as the did to the US.
